Cuban Cocktails which top your holiday in the Caribbean!
A tropical beach holiday in Cuba would not be complete without having tried one of the countries classic cocktails for which Cuba is famous for. Enjoyed on the beach, at the swimming pool or the bar, any of these are a real refresher during the warm afternoons in the sunshine.
Without doubt one of Cuba’s finest and simplest of cocktails, Cuba Libre is no more than a mix of white rum with cola and a twist of lime. This cocktail was given its name ‘Free Cuba’ in 1902 after the country gained independence from the Spanish colonial rule.
There are many different variations for the famous daiquiri cocktail. The classic Daiquiri, as popularized by La Floridita and championed by Ernest Hemingway who regularly visited that renowned bar in Old Havana, consists of white rum, Maraschino liqueur, sugar syrup, lime juice and crushed ice.
The most popular Cuban cocktail, which came to prominence in La Bodeguita del Medio bar in Havana, is a refreshing combination of white rum, sugar, lime juice, soda water and mint.
The Presidente Cocktail gained fame during the years of American Prohibition in the 1920s and named in honour of Mario García Menocal, president of Cuba from 1912 to 1920. There are lots of recipes but the basic components are dark rum, curacao, white vermouth and a dash of grenadine.
This is the Cuban version of the gin-based American Tom Collins, made here with white rum, sugar, lime, soda water and ice.
